I am very pleased to be able to confirm that the work to rebuild the front section of the first floor bar will now take place this winter.
Although the Planning Inspectorate turned down our appeal over the barrel shaped replacement roof for the main bar, we do have Planning Permission to proceed with a more contemporary design by Fordingbridge Ltd. Artists' impressions of this are below.
The renovation of the bar area will involve removing the existing walls and roof, and replacing them with double glazed wall units and the new curving roof. The refit will include sound insulation of the ceiling, new electrics and plumbing. The cost of the project to the Club is £125k, the funds for which are in place. These include substantial donations from two very generous members, for which we are extremely grateful.
The General Committee has given its approval for the project to go ahead this winter. Although this is not the best time of year weather wise, we cannot afford the loss of income that would result in carrying out the work in the summer months. It is planned that work will commence in the first week of the new year and it is scheduled to be completed by the end of February.
Yours sincerely
Tony Walton
