Sue Hawley is the Estuaries Officer for the Isle of Wight Estuaries Project, working predominantly on the Medina and the Western Yar. The project is a partnership between Cowes Harbour Commission, Environment Agency, Isle of Wight Council, Natural England and Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners. Sue is involved in a wide variety of projects that aim to co-ordinate and promote the sustainable use of estuaries.
Sue has degrees from Cardiff and Heriot-Watt Universities and after extensive travel came to the Island in 2000 to work on a one year European Project. As part of her studies Sue spent a year in Cambridge working on the United Nations List of Protected Areas and six months in the Orkney Islands assessing the environmental impact of tourism. Her main interests are sustainable resource management and human interaction with the marine and coastal environment. Sue will talk about the Isle of Wight Estuaries Project and invites us to take a closer look at the Western Yar.
